The promenade was elected one of the one hundred greatest promenades in Japan. It runs along a one hundred-fifty to four hundred meter tall mountain ridge, located north of Lake Biwa. This mystical lake has many legends associated with it. A climb to the peak of Mt. Shizugatake, where the historic battle between Katsuie Shibata and Hideyoshi Hashiba took place, rewards its viewers with a picturesque scene which includes a full view of Lake Biwa and Lake Yogo.
