Nagahama Hikiyama Festival

Nagahama Hikiyama Festival

One of the three major float festivals in Japan, it is designated a significant piece of intangible folk culture, and is annually celebrated and held by Nagahama city members and priests of the Hachimangu Shrine. The main attractions are the Kabuki plays performed by boys on the Hikiyama stages which are on the floats. After a month of hard training, the children give a performance that is on par with any adult performer. This festival is very exciting for visitors as well as participants and has its main day on the 15th.
